Our work
Friendship & Welcome
Structured friendship and welcome connections for people who are newly arrived in, or otherwise isolated within, their community.
At the centre of First Friend Ireland is a simple idea: a first connection can change how welcome someone feels. This programme area is about creating structured, supported ways for people to meet — whether someone has just arrived in Ireland, has recently moved to a new area, or has become isolated where they already live.
We are building the framework for these connections carefully, with safeguarding and consent at the centre, rather than launching before it is ready.
What this includes
- Structured friendship and welcome connections between members, volunteers and newcomers
- Welcome events for people who are new to a community
- Guidance for volunteers on how to build a respectful, consensual connection
Who this is for
- People newly arrived in Ireland
- People new to a local area
- People experiencing isolation
